Value Based Purchasing
Quality Improvement Organizations offer support for Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services new Value-Based Purchasing Programs with technical assistance to providers that includes sharing best practices, assisting with data analysis and conducting improvement activities. The Medicare Value-Based Purchasing Program will start paying hospitals based on quality as of October 1, 2012.
Hospital value-based purchasing means that hospitals will be paid not just for how much data they submit, but whether the data shows that beneficiaries are faring well under a hospital’s care. The data hospitals report under their quality reporting programs are the same data Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will use to calculate hospitals’ value-based payment rates.
