Project in a Box: Medication Safety in Older Adults

To help reduce adverse drug events, HQSI offers a free, self-contained Medication Safety for Older Adults Program. The program components, available for download, will enable healthcare providers, community educators and others to conduct an interactive presentation aimed at educating older adults on medication safety. This program is made available as part of HQSI’s ongoing medication safety efforts.

This “project in a box” contains everything needed to deliver an effective medication safety presentation. This includes a short, easy-to-follow PowerPoint presentation that reviews the following topics:

  • The importance of medication safety
  • Understanding and assessing the risk for medication-related problems
  • Avoiding medication-related problems
  • Correctly interpreting prescription and over-the-counter drug labels and warning stickers
  • Safe use of dietary supplements and over-the-counter medications
  • Concluding safety tips and resources for more information

This self-contained program also includes A Presenter’s Guide, Medication Safety Handouts, Presenter’s Notes, Evaluation Forms, a Medication Safety Crossword puzzle to use as an icebreaker before or after the presentation, and promotional flyers that can be customized for your event.
